""The Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition offers Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) undergraduate degrees in three focused disciplines:

Applied Human Nutrition - Discipline

 Child Studies - Discipline

  • Study the ways children learn, develop, and grow from psychological, physiological, and social perspectives, with families considered as a central context in which children develop
  • Three guaranteed practicum placements give you over 500 hours of hands-on experience working with children in a variety of settings
  • Graduates of the Child Studies major are eligible to apply for membership in the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Careers in diverse settings including elementary schools, paediatric wards in hospitals, family and community service agencies, child care centres, and child and youth treatment facilities

Family Studies and Human Development - Discipline

  • Study the development of individuals and families across the lifespan within the context of relationships, and diverse social and cultural influences
  • Guaranteed practicum placement(s) enable you to gain knowledge and skills appropriate for work with individuals and groups in a variety of settings, completing up to 336 hours of practical experience
  • Careers in a variety of settings including family and community service agencies; government; research institutions; health promotion divisions; support services delivery for individuals and their families; health and social care agencies; employee and family assistance programs; and local social planning councils
