The Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition offers Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) undergraduate degrees in three focused disciplines:
Applied Human Nutrition - Discipline
- Biological, social and clinical aspects of human nutrition
- Nutrition education and counselling
- Nutrition throughout the lifespan
- Clinical nutrition and assessment
- You can enroll in the AHN major with area of emphasis in dietetics (accredited program recognized by the Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice) OR the AHN major with optional minor. Click here for more information.
Child Studies - Discipline
- Study the ways children learn, develop, and grow from psychological, physiological, and social perspectives, with families considered as a central context in which children develop
- Three guaranteed practicum placements give you over 500 hours of hands-on experience working with children in a variety of settings
- Graduates of the Child Studies major are eligible to apply for membership in the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Careers in diverse settings including elementary schools, paediatric wards in hospitals, family and community service agencies, child care centres, and child and youth treatment facilities
Family Studies and Human Development - Discipline
- Study the development of individuals and families across the lifespan within the context of relationships, and diverse social and cultural influences
- Guaranteed practicum placement(s) enable you to gain knowledge and skills appropriate for work with individuals and groups in a variety of settings, completing up to 336 hours of practical experience
- Careers in a variety of settings including family and community service agencies; government; research institutions; health promotion divisions; support services delivery for individuals and their families; health and social care agencies; employee and family assistance programs; and local social planning councils
